Introduction of History:

The journey of the Department of History at GGDC Salboni has begun with the inception of the college in 2014. From the beginning the department has offered both Honours and General courses under Vidyasagar University and have attracted a steady number of eager students every year. Currently the department is successfully disseminating the CBCS curriculum at all levels from 2018 as adopted by the university. The department has 4 sanctioned posts of full-time professors and the student intake capacity at entry level to UG History (Honours) is 60. At present 3 fulltime faculty members are serving to create a holistic academic atmosphere in the department.The journey of the Department of History at GGDC Salboni has begun with the inception of the college in 2014. The department of History, GGDC Salboni is committed to present the discipline in the most effective manner. By creating the sense of history among the students the department aims to build socially responsible citizens. Keeping in mind the specificities of Junglemahal area that the college caters to, the department has adopted diverse teaching-learning methods and interactive tools. An extremely cordial and friendly student-teacher relationship is maintained to ensure overall development. Along with standard classroom lectures the dynamic faculty uses audio-visual presentations and hold interactive sessions. The use of maps and pictorial illustrations is a regular feature in history classes here. To enliven the learning experience of the students the department also arranges invited lectures, student seminars and educational trips. Student-centric tutorial classes are held simultaneously for the betterment of weak students. Regular class assignments are conducted to maintain the academic standard. To assist the students the department also runs an effective departmental library. The faculty members constantly motivate and support the students for higher studies so that they can successfully establish themselves. 

‘Anweshan’ – the departmental wall magazine is entirely run by the students and has become an excellent platform for students of this marginalized region to showcase their talent and organizing capability. Faculties and students of the department sincerely try to celebrate key historical events of national and international importance. The department boosts of successful past batches who have pursued masters degrees with appreciable merit.There is a constant endeavour to nurture the young minds, empower the underprivileged and establish history as a vibrant subject with diverse future prospects.

Our government college stands as a beacon of hope in this remote area, where all students admitted to the History Honours course are first-generation learners. The adjoining region, steeped in historical tradition from ancient to colonial and post-colonial times, inspires our academic endeavors. Recognizing the financial challenges faced by our students, the department strives to equip them with skills and knowledge that open up job opportunities, fostering socio-economic upliftment. A special focus is placed on empowering girl students to delay early marriages by encouraging education as a pathway to independence. Together, we aim to transform lives and preserve the historical legacy of our region.
