Introduction of Sanskrit:

The Sanskrit Department at Government General Degree College Salboni, established in 2015, has been a cornerstone of the college's academic framework since its inception. Located in Koyma, Paschim Medinipur, West Bengal, the department initially offered general Sanskrit courses to introduce students to the fundamentals of the language, its grammar, and its cultural significance. In 2016, the department expanded by launching a Bachelor of Arts Honours program in Sanskrit, enabling students to pursue specialized studies in ancient scriptures, the Vedas, Indian philosophy, and classical Sanskrit grammar.

About Department:

The department is supported by a dedicated team of four permanent faculty members, all highly experienced in Sanskrit studies, who guide students through intricate texts while fostering a deep appreciation for Sanskrit’s cultural heritage. The curriculum covers a broad range of topics, including epic literature, drama, and philosophical writings, with a focus on developing language proficiency and understanding the historical and societal contexts of Sanskrit works. The department also places importance on familiarizing students with ancient scripts like Brahmi, Devanagari, and Grantha, enhancing their ability to interpret ancient texts. The central library of the college, with over six hundred Sanskrit books, further enriches the academic experience. Beyond academics, the department engages in cultural events and outreach activities, promoting the importance of Sanskrit in contemporary society. Through its commitment to education and cultural preservation, the Sanskrit Department continues to shape the minds of future scholars and promote the enduring relevance of Sanskrit.
