The Department of Sociology was introduced at Government General Degree College Salboni in the inception year, 2014 itself. At the onset only general degree course in annual pattern was offered under Vidyasagar University 3 Year B.A. programme. From 2015 onwards honours course in Sociology was introduced under the same curriculum. The department has been performing in tune with the introductions and modifications of the affiliated university. Hence, in 2018 the department started offering Sociology Honours and General courses in the C.B.C.S. pattern. Likewise from 2023-24 session CCFUP under NEP has been operational. The department has 4 sanctioned faculty posts and at present all the posts are filled. The intake capacity at honours level is 40. The department is dedicated to providing a thorough and insightful education in the field of sociology. Graduates of the department are equipped to pursue varied careers including academia, social work, public administration, journalism and research.
