Green Campus Initiatives

At Government General Degree College, Salboni we are committed to fostering a culture of environmental sustainability through a number of initiatives. Our green campus initiatives reflect our dedication to creating a sustainable future for our community and the planet. IQAC has obtained several measures to make our campus eco-friendly and environmentally benign. A policy document on “green campus, energy and environment” has been prepared by Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) in order to reduce usage of plastic and to make the campus a plastic free zone. On recommendation by IQAC, a Green/Environment Audit has been conducted through well recognized Audit team from Vidyasagar University.  The NSS team of our institution organized various awareness programs throughout the year not only in college campus but also beyond the campus for the sustainable development of the society. Green campus initiatives adopted by our institution are as follows:

In Campus Initiatives:

1. Our Institution has been setup a rain water harvesting system that gathers rooftop rain water via a network of pipes. This water is then directed into a storage tank and the water stored in the tank has been used for gardening. In this way, water conservation has been maintained.

2. Bio-degradable and non-biodegradable boxes has been placed in various places of the institution to management the wastes. College has built isolated and covered soak pit to channelize chemical waste from chemistry laboratory into the soil through pipelines. It's ultimately treated with charcoal and lime to destroy its reactivity.

3. Green campus initiatives such as Tree plantation and Campus Cleaning have been initiated by NSS

4. Awareness program on “Tobacco free campus” and “Plastic free campus” has been organized by NSS.  

5. Herbal Garden with few important medicinal plants has been set up in the college premises.

6. Every Thursday, is ‘No Vehicle Day’ has been implemented by IQAC as an initiative of green campus. Various banners have also been displayed in the campus to raise awareness among students and staff.
