Brief Description of the project:
Double perovskite materials (A2B′B′′O6) have attracted significant attention due to their exceptional ionic-electronic conductivity, electrocatalytic activity, and potential applications in energy devices like solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), memory devices, and spintronics. These materials, consisting of alkaline earth or rare-earth elements (A) and transition metals (B′, B′′), exhibit promising properties such as multiferroicity, magnetoresistance, and ferromagnetic semiconductivity. However, challenges remain in synthesizing pure-phase materials and understanding the structure-property relationships for optimized performance.
This proposal aims to synthesize double perovskites with compositions [A2B′B′′O6 (A = Gd, Ce, Sm, Eu, Er, Nd, Dy, Y; B′ = Ni, Fe, Co, Zn; B′′ = Mo, Mn, W)] in the nanoscale using solid-state reaction, mechanical alloying, and citrate auto-ignition methods. The focus will be on investigating their structural, microstructural, and functional properties, including electrical, optical, and magnetic behaviors. By analyzing these materials' structural and property correlations, the research will contribute to their potential applications in energy conversion, memory storage, and spintronics, while advancing the understanding of their fundamental characteristics.

Brief Description of the project:
This project focuses on the synthesis, characterization, and investigation of rare-earth-based double perovskite (RDP) materials, with the general formula [A2B′B′′O6 (A = Gd, Ce, Sm, Eu, Er, Nd, Dy, Y; B′ = Ni, Fe, Co, Zn; B′′ = Mo, Mn, W)] for advanced applications. RDPs are known for their promising multiferroic and ferromagnetic semiconducting properties, making them suitable for energy storage, spintronics, and memory devices. The study will explore the synthesis of these materials using solid-state reaction, mechanical alloying, and citrate auto-ignition methods, focusing on nanoscale formations, which are underexplored. Key objectives include structural and microstructural characterization, investigation of magnetic, electrical, dielectric, and magneto-transport properties, and the impact of defects, vacancies, and valence states on these properties. The project aims to establish correlations between the material’s structure and its performance for futuristic technological applications. By addressing gaps in the literature, particularly regarding the effects of cation valency and nanoscale structures on the properties, this research will contribute significantly to the advancement of RDPs in various fields of material science and technology.
Centre of Studies for Tribal Development
Government General Degree College Salboni is located at such a remote corner of the West Bengal state was to cater to the academic demands of the poor and underprivileged students of this area who have suffered a long history of deprivation. The college has a vision to affect an academic uplift of the students and thereby bolster the socio-economic conditions of living of the residents of Jangalmahal area. Mr. Aampa Kumar Hembrom, Head of the Department of Santali at GGDC Salboni, expressed a strong interest in working for his tribal community under the college's banner. However, due to a lack of funding, the college could not arrange any subsequent programs for the community. Consequently, Mr. Hembrom was appointed as the head of the Extension and Community Outreach Programme. He has organized numerous programs with financial and other support from the Majhi Pargana System, the traditional Social Institutions of the Santal community. His dedication and efficiency led to the establishment of a dedicated centre for tribal development related activities, the Centre of Studies for Tribal Development, in 2022. After the establishment of the centre, Mr. Hembrom was appointed as the Centre In-Charge. He is Coordinator for the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan unit, a flagship programme of Central Government under Ministry of Human Resource Development. Mr. Hembrom also a member of the Environmental Studies Sub-committee and the Career Counseling and Placement Sub-committee at this college.
Approach - Government General Degree College Salboni has a practice of “Promotion and Conservation of Indigenous Culture”. For Promotion and Conservation of Indigenous Culture we should strengthening Traditional Social Institutions of Tribal’s. Traditional institutions play a central role in the governance and social organization of tribal communities, serving as custodians of indigenous culture, law, and community welfare. The Santal community has its own traditional social institutions (TSIs) known as the Majhi Pargana System, which functions as a self-governance mechanism. At the village level, the Majhi System operates as the grassroots unit of the Majhi Pargana System. Within this system, various activities such as legislation, execution, and judicial functions are carried out. In comparison, the Panchayati Raj System, which is a well-known model of decentralized governance in India, operates through Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) at the village level. This includes activities like the Gram Sabha for the preparation of the Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) and social audits. Our approach involves integrating Traditional Social Institutions (TSIs) with Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs). We focus on raising awareness among beneficiaries and organizing capacity-building programs to encourage active participation in the Gram Sabha for GPDP preparation and social audits.
Traditional Social institutions provide a framework for local governance and leadership that is already trusted by the community. Strengthening these institutions can enhance their capacity to manage developmental projects effectively. Implementing developmental activities in Santal villages without acknowledging and integrating these traditional Social institutions risks undermining the effectiveness and sustainability of such efforts. Traditional institutions are not merely cultural relics; they are functional and adaptive structures that address the community’s needs and aspirations. It is vital to respect the autonomy of traditional institutions and avoid imposing external solutions. Development initiatives should be designed to complement and enhance existing structures rather than replace them. This respect for cultural integrity fosters trust and cooperation between external agents and the local community. Investing in capacity building for traditional leaders and institutions is crucial. Training programs should focus on enhancing skills related to project management, resource mobilization, and conflict resolution while respecting traditional practices. This approach not only supports the growth of Santal villages but also upholds their rich cultural heritage, paving the way for harmonious and inclusive development. Our Approches is the integration of Traditional Social Institutions (TSIs) and Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs). In this part our role is to aware them and arrange capacity building Programmes.
The Focus area of these initiatives is-
- Documentation of Tribal Rituals and Festivals - Centre work on Audio-Visual Documentation and Written Documentation of Tribal’s. Record audio-Visual and document Santal cultural practices, rituals, Good and Bad Practices in Tribal Communities, traditional knowledge and Natural Resources of Villages to ensure preservation and transmission to future generations. Publish documents in Newspaper, Books and Social Media Platform.
- Good and Bad Practices - Our Centre is dedicated to addressing and mitigating the harmful practices prevalent in tribal communities, focusing on issues such as child marriage, school dropout rates, alcoholism, and the Dynee system. These practices not only hinder the progress of individuals but also impede the overall development of the communities. Our initiatives are rooted in the principles of education, awareness, and support, aiming to create sustainable and positive change.
- Tribal Art and Cultural Activities in Institutions: Tribal art and culture are vital expressions of indigenous identity, yet they are at risk due to modernization and economic challenges.
